Today’s Blogtober is all about things I am grateful for. Here are my top five blessings in life:
I am fit and healthy
I am currently overhauling my fitness with an intensive bout of gym work. This has however been met with the criticism that I am going to the gym too much. Why is it a bad thing to want my body to be stronger? Going to the gym is as much a hobby as golf is to somebody else. I actually enjoy it – crazy I know. The gym is something that I do for myself and as a result my mental health is improved by it too.
I feel blessed to even be able to get to the gym! What with my mum’s recent heart attack and my health scare last year, I really do live by the mantra that ‘health is wealth‘.
I have a job
I left a very well paid role back home in order to come travelling. Since I’ve been away I have worked in roles that have not paid even half of it but I am happier. Travelling has taught me that I need very little in life to be happy. As long as I have a job where I feel I am making a little bit of a difference and I am earning enough to meet my basic needs – I am blessed.
I still have my parents
If your a regular reader you’ll know from a previous post that my mum had a heart attack not long ago. I genuinely thought that I was going to lose her and the fact that I didn’t is a huge blessing!
My parents are of the ‘older generation’ and so I have been conscious for a long time that at some point I will no longer have them around. But lets not dwell – I have them now and that is one of my biggest blessings!
I have access to food, water and shelter
Back when I was living in Australia, I took part in the ‘Sleep Under the Stars‘ event for the charity ‘Stepping Stones’. This event is designed to raise funds and awareness for homeless youth. I think many people take for granted and overlook the blessing of being able to run a bath/shower. To have ‘midnight munchies’ and go and raid the fridge. The ability to crawl into a nice warm bed after a long day at work. I am blessed to be able to do all of those things.
“Music can change the world” – Beethoven
Lastly, I am blessed to be able to hear music every day. Music is my great love in life. It is how I express and process my emotions. Music is life!
