“Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it… The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” – Sylvia Plath
A good blogging friend of mine introduced me to the concept of ‘Blogtober’ a couple of days ago.
I truly believed that as a result of travelling the world I would have a lot more time for blogging. My expectation was that I would keep everybody updated with my exploits and adventures – But I haven’t. In short, I haven’t felt as if I had anything to say that people would want to hear.
“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” – Louis L’Amour
Once I feel I have something to say, there is no stopping the words flowing out of me. I ‘turn my faucet on’ daily in order to journal and analyse any thoughts/feelings that have arisen. It benefits me immensely because it allows me to look at things from an ‘outsiders’ perspective.
Whilst journalling is productive, I wouldn’t call it fun. It is more often than not intense, serious and painful. I think this is the why ‘Blogtober’ caught my attention so vividly – I want to start writing again for fun.
“Make a commitment to having fun… Make time for your hobbies and passions.” – Robert Holden
It is a blessing and a curse that I label myself a bit OCD/perfectionist. This might be one of the reasons why blog posts take me so long to write. If I am going to partake in ‘Blogtober’, I need to do so in a way that reflects my capabilities.
Some months ago I was sent a 30 day writing challenge which I promptly forgot about. It seems apt that I should bring it out now as a personal test for ‘Blogtober’.

So there you have it… I’ll do my best to throw aside all notions of perfection and just write for the pleasure of writing. Lets see how I fare!
